Shadow & Light
/The winter season -- these long, dark months of January and February -- has me thinking about the ever present duality of life: Light and Dark. Shadow and Light. Sorrow and Joy.
We tend to always be seeking the Light because it is a 'better' place to be. Lately, though, I've been receiving the message from a variety of sources that it's time to embrace a fuller kind of love: the love of BOTH the Light and the Dark.
I'm not really sure how this kind of love would feel, but I sense that it's filled with a great tenderness. A tenderness towards seasons of darkness and light within us and outside of us.
Can you imagine what it would be like to love your seasons of sorrow as much as your seasons of joy? That's this week's Postcard Prompt. I'd love to know what you think - leave a comment below!
Postcard Prompt:
Can you love your Shadows and much as your Light? What would this kind of love feel like - the love of darkness?
Word Prompts:
Place: Ancient Cathedral
Person: Hop picker in August
Scent: Cat's fur in winter
Object: Wet stone
Color: Ripe peach
My Take:
"Just This"
Just this:
Bury your face
in the cat's fur
in winter.
She comes in cold
and bustling
with affection and life.
Just this:
Re-read the book
about the hop pickers
in August.
They fall in love
at the end - remember?
They step out into sunshine.
Just this:
Notice the way
the color of the
wet stone
is so much darker
than the dry.
Just this:
Hold the ripe
peach
to your skin.
Thanks for reading.
